Me. Monterocabrera et al., MULTIELEMENTAL CHARACTERIZATION OF VOLCANIC AND VULCANO-SEDIMENTARY ROCKS FROM PINA PETROLEUM ORE, CENTRAL CUBA, Nuclear geophysics, 8(4), 1994, pp. 361-371
Concentrations of 32 elements in 22 clay, limestone, tuff and volcanic
rock samples from the Pina ore have been obtained by neutron activati
on and x-ray fluorescence analyses. Several LILE (large ion lithofile
elements) and REE (rare earth element) concentration diagrams showed t
he calc-alkaline character of the volcanic rocks corresponding to the
Greater Antilles Island, Arc. The basaltic andesite behavior of the ro
cks studied was confirmed by comparing the average concentrations obta
ined from tuffs and volcanic rocks with proper mean values of rock ele
mental compositions of the earth's crust.
