A. Goosen et Dh. Morgan, PARTICIPATION OF COBALT SPECIES IN AUTOXIDATION OF NONANE AND DECANE, South African Journal of Chemistry, 47(2), 1994, pp. 59-63
Cobalt(II) acetate is shown to be slightly soluble in boiling nonane a
nd decane and promotes autoxidation to produce ketones as major produc
ts. It is proposed that the reaction takes place via a cobalt(III)-per
oxy species which reacts with the alkanes to form cobalt(II)-alkylhydr
operoxide complexes. These complexes decompose to form preferentially
ketones, with concomitant regeneration of cobalt(II) acetate.
