The subsolidus phase relations of the system La2O3-CaO-CuO sintered at
980-degrees-C in air have been investigated by X-ray powder diffracti
on (XRD). The system can be divided into seven three-phase regions and
two extended two-phase regions. In this system there exist two binary
compounds La2CuO4 and Ca2CuO3, two ternary compounds La2CaCu2O6 and L
aCa2Cu5Oy and one solid solution La2-xCaCuO4-delta. The effects of Ca2
+ substitution for La3+ on the superconductivity and crystal structure
