The analysis of water-wetting of wood was performed. Basic characteris
tics for wetting process were defined and determined experimentally -
the contact angle at the beginning of wetting THETA(o) and the equilib
rium contact angle THETA(u). Based on these characteristics, the conta
ct angle, signed as THETA(w), corresponding to ideal smooth wood surfa
ce was determined. The results were used for the computation of free w
ood - surface energy and compared with the data from literature.
