Harmonic constants are estimated by analysing tidal observations from
20 ports in the Aegean and the Ionian Seas, areas where no similar dat
a were available so far. The analysis is based on tidal records 7 year
s long. The resulting values for the M2 constituent are compared with
the results of a hydrodynamic-numerical model of the M2 tide for the M
editerranean Sea. The qualitative agreement between the observations a
nd the model indicates that in spite of the complex topography of the
Aegean Sea the major features of the tidal propagation could be retrie
ved through the model, if better tuned.
