Ag. Akkulov et Na. Zakarina, ELECTROOXIDATION OF CO ON PLATINUM CATALYSTS OF DIFFERENT GENESIS FORANALYTICAL PURPOSES, Russian journal of applied chemistry, 66(4), 1993, pp. 621-626
Through methods of Potentiodynamic curves, charging curves, x-ray phot
oelectron spectroscopy, and granulometric analysis the effect of the p
latinum black preparation technique upon the activity of gas-diffusion
electrodes based on these blacks in the electrochemical oxidation of
CO was studied. It was shown that in the reduction of colloidal platin
um with sodium borohydride an active mass of electrocatalyst is obtain
ed, which is superior in its characteristics to the one used in indust
ry. The enhanced activity of the electrode based on platinum black obt
ained by the suggested technique is related to the partly hydroxylated
platinum present on the catalyst surface along the Pt0, and the therm
odynamically stable phases CuO and B2O3, as well as to the optimum pro
file of the macrograins of platinum black, forming in the process of s
ynthesis.
