Abstract
Many organizations try to redesign their business process to gain comp etitive advantage; they are more and more using information technology to perform that transformation. In the same way as the MIT 90's frame work, this paper offers the view that strategic information systems ha ve to be developed in the context of the strategic triangle which link s strategy, structure and information technology. A three stages appro ach is offered and illustrated on the case of SOCRATE the newly launch ed seat reservation system for the French Railway. The paper concludes that only a global approach through a strategic information system wi ll allow business process redesign to deliver full business benefit.
