The finite element method, in which form functions for rectangular ele
ments satisfy equations of motion, is employed to study planar vibrati
ons of thin, rectangular, piezoelectric plates. Resonance frequencies,
natural mode shapes, the distribution of the sum of fundamental stres
ses, and other characteristics important to piezoelectric transformer
and resonator design are calculated.
