Abstract
The effects of religious communalism (interaction with correligionists ) and associationalism (exposure to and acceptance of elite-level reli gious communications) on a variety of attitudes toward ''social issues '' are compared. In general, associationalism is a stronger predictor of political attitudes than communalism.
