M. Forster et al., IMMOBILIZATION OF CITRATE-PRODUCING YARROWIA-LIPOLYTICA CELLS IN POLYELECTROLYTE COMPLEX CAPSULES, Enzyme and microbial technology, 16(9), 1994, pp. 777-784
Microcapsules prepared from sodium cellulose sulfate and poly(dimethyl
diallylammonium chloride) have been shown to be well suited for encaps
ulation of biological objects. The citrate-accumulating yeast Yarrowia
lipolytica was immobilized using this method without severe lass of v
itality and catalytic activity. The encapsulated cells had an average
productivity of 0.125gl(-1) h(-1). The yield was 0.45g acid g(-1) gluc
ose. I;he immobilized biocatalyst lost the catalytic activity, but was
still able to divide after 2,000 h use.
