It is shown that cultured Ehrlich ascitic carcinoma cells are a conven
ient test system for the investigation of the effects of various facto
rs on DNA synthesis in the cells of this tumor. The application of thi
s system markedly facilitates fractionation of a chalone-containing pr
eparation, the purpose of this fractionation being the isolation of co
mponents affecting specific phases of the mitotic cycle.
