K. Heuston et Hp. Zeigler, WATER-DEPRIVATION AND SUBFORNICAL ORGAN ACTIVITY IN THE PIGEON A [C-14] 2-DEOXYGLUCOSE STUDY, Brain research, 654(2), 1994, pp. 331-335
Following varying degrees of water deprivation (0, 24 and 72 h), funct
ional activity in the subfornical organ (SFO) of pigeons was measured
using the [C-14]2-deoxyglucose method. Increasing levels of water depr
ivation produced a significant increase in glucose uptake in SFO. The
magnitude of the effect was systematically correlated with morphologic
ally defined SFO subdivisions.
