Abstract
Three transfusions of blood irradiated at 254 nm induce an increase of phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages in rats with peritoniti s in comparison with infusion of intact blood. Addition of aspirin, an inhibitor of enzymatic peroxidation of lipids, to the irradiated port ion of the blood before irradiation abolishes this stimulating effect.
