Dr. Atkinson et al., MEXICAN-AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN-AMERICAN RATINGS OF 4 ALCOHOLISM-TREATMENT PROGRAMS, Hispanic journal of behavioral sciences, 16(3), 1994, pp. 265-280
Mexican American and European American community college students were
surveyed to determine the models of addiction to which they subscribe
d, their ratings of four alcoholism treatment programs, and, in the ca
se of Mexican Americans, their scores on a measure of acculturation. M
exican American participants rated all four alcoholism treatment progr
ams as more effective than did European Americans. Models of addiction
to which participants subscribed were not found to be related to eith
er ethnicity or ratings of the four alcoholism treatments. Mexican Ame
ricans who scored lowest on the acculturation scale gave the highest r
atings for all four alcoholism treatment programs.
