Av. Shashkin et Ea. Vaganov, SIMULATION-MODEL OF CLIMATICALLY DETERMINED VARIABILITY OF CONIFERS ANNUAL INCREMENT (ON THE EXAMPLE OF COMMON PINE IN THE STEPPE ZONE), Russian journal of ecology, 24(5), 1993, pp. 275-280
A brief description is given of a simulation model of the formation of
increment (annual rings) of wood, based on physiological and biophysi
cal dependences of the seasonal growth rate on temperature, moisture,
and illumination. The model was verified on experimental data for the
growth of common pine in the steppe zone of Khakasia in several indepe
ndent ways: by comparing the results of calculation of intermediate ec
ological characteristics (dynamics of moisture in the soil), by compar
ing increment indices, and, by comparing calculated and experimental t
racheidograms. The high correlation of calculated and experimental val
ues (r = 0.8) indicates that the model that was constructed is adequat
e and can be used as a theoretical base for dendroclimatological analy
sis.
