Abstract
The authors studied the effect of the increased background of ionizing radiation on stands of European birch in the 30-kilometer zone of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant at different distances away from the plant. They investigated the sowing qualities of birch f rom the crop of 1987 and their resistance to provocation irradiation i n large doses.
