Abstract
The high luminosity interaction regions (IRs) are an important part of the lattice in colliding beam machines. The performance of the collid er may depend significantly on the particular design of the IRs. In th is paper we discuss the general principles of IR design and apply thes e principles to the design of the Superconducting Super Collider inter action regions.
