A new deuteron tensor polarimeter (POLDER), based upon the charge exch
ange reaction H-1 (d over arrow pointing right, 2p) n, has been constr
ucted and calibrated in the energy range 175-500 MeV for all polarisat
ion signals. The large figures of merit obtained make POLDER a unique
instrument in this energy domain. The operation of this polarimeter ha
s been checked in practice in a test experiment on Ca-40(d over arrow
pointing right, d' over arrow pointing right)Ca-40 elastic scattering
performed at E(d) = 380 MeV.
