Dc. Hague et Mj. Mayo, CONTROLLING CRYSTALLINITY DURING PROCESSING OF NANOCRYSTALLINE TITANIA, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 77(7), 1994, pp. 1957-1960
The present study shows that an extremely high water:alkoxide ratio du
ring the hydrolysis of titanium isopropoxide results in a partially cr
ystalline precipitate (5-nm anatase crystallites); however, when these
crystallites are rinsed with ethanol, the precipitate becomes amorpho
us. The degree of crystallinity of the precipitate determines its subs
equent thermal decomposition characteristics and, ultimately, the crys
tallite size of the calcined powder.
