A series of nickel(II) complexes of Schiff bases obtained by the conde
nsation of 2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzaldehyde and 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyd
e with glycine, DL-alanine, DL-valine, DL-methionine, L-leucine, and D
L-phenylalanine were synthesized and characterized by elemental analys
es, molar electrical conductivities, magnetic moments, infrared spectr
a, and thermoanalyses. All the complexes were found to be non-electrol
ytes with the general empirical formula [NiL(H2O)2], where L is an ami
no acid Schiff base ligand. The probable structure of the complexes is
suggested.
