The key to more effective technology development is improving ifs unde
rlying management process. Building upon the process defined in Part 1
(RTM, Jan-Feb. 1997, pp. 41-47), this article describes how to succes
sfully transfer the newly developed technology, into product developme
nt. This transfer does not just happen naturally; there is a clearly d
efined link between the technology development process and the product
development process. The link is formed by a technology transfer proc
ess with three basic elements: program synchronization, technology equ
alization and technology transfer management. By understanding and app
lying these elements, companies can make the transfer process not only
less painful but also more successful.
