Ig. Goncharova et Lm. Gerasimenko, DYNAMICS OF INORGANIC PHOSPHORUS CONSUMPTION BY MICROCOLEUS-CHTHONOPLASTES CELLS, Microbiology, 62(6), 1993, pp. 611-615
The dynamics of inorganic phosphorus consumption by cells of the cyano
bacterium Microcoleus chthonoplastes, isolated from littoral lagoons o
f Lake Sivash, has been studied. The P(i) content in M. chthonoplastes
living cells was shown to vary within a wide range and to depend upon
the growth phase. The threshold phosphorus concentrations and the max
imal phosphorus amount which could be accumulated by cells were determ
ined. Phosphorus consumption by cyanobacterial cells was most intense
within the first hours of growth, which was clearly shown in phosphoru
s-limited cells.
