Abstract
The independent-quasiparticle approximation to calculating the optical properties of solids is extended to account for dynamical effects, na mely, the energy dependence of the CW self-energy. We use a simple but realistic model of such energy dependence. We find that the inclusion of dynamical effects reduces considerably the calculated absorption s pectrum and makes the agreement with experiment worse.
