M. Jebrouni et al., PREPARATION OF ALUMINA-ZIRCONIA DISPERSIO NS BY REACTIONS IN MOLTEN NITRATES AND CHARACTERIZATION, Annales de chimie, 19(2), 1994, pp. 55-65
Simultaneous reactivity of zirconium oxychloride and of an aluminium s
alt, chloride or nitrate, with molten alkali nitrates leads at 450-deg
rees-C to alumina-zirconia dispersions. Zirconia is present in the sha
pe of agglomerates constituted of nano-sized crystallites giving to th
e powder a large specific surface area. Alumina particles exhibit a di
fferent microstructure, They delay the growth of tetragonal zirconia c
rystallites and consequently stabilize the tetragonal variety.
