Mr. Hyman et al., OXIDATION OF METHYL-FLUORIDE AND DIMETHYL ETHER BY AMMONIA MONOOXYGENASE IN NITROSOMONAS-EUROPAEA, Applied and environmental microbiology, 60(8), 1994, pp. 3033-3035
Methyl fluoride and dimethyl ether were previously identified as inhib
itors of ammonia oxidation and N2O production in autotrophic nitrifyin
g bacteria. We demonstrate that methyl fluoride and dimethyl ether are
substrates for ammonia monooxygenase and are converted to formaldehyd
e and a mixture of methanol and formaldehyde, respectively.
