Abstract
This paper discusses the physical and mechanical characteristics of bo rolanthanide glasses (microhardness, microbrittleness, polishability) and the effect of polishing suspensions on these characteristics. It i s established that suspensions known as polishing accelerators reduce the microhardness and microbrittleness of glass, while retardants stre ngthen it. After the suspensions act for two hours, the microhardness reaches its maximal reduction, by about a factor of 2, while the micro brittleness is reduced by approximately 40%.
