Abstract
Little is known about parents' motivations for abducting their childre n and going into hiding. In-depth interviews were conducted with 17 pa rents (nine fathers and eight mothers) to learn of their relevant expe riences. Reported reasons for abduction included unsatisfactory contac t with court-related professionals, revenge, and fear for the child's safety. Some abductors, after the abduction had been resolved, had inc reased contact with their children.
