The structure of oxygen-containing organic compounds formed at the sur
face of yttrium, erbium, and holmium oxides upon interaction of CO wit
h hydroxyl groups is studied by diffuse-reflectance IR spectroscopy. I
t is shown that these species represent formate (HCO2-), formyl (HCO-)
, and, perhaps, dioxymethylene groups (H2CO22-).
