The effectiveness of three different methods for the treatment of mamm
ary tumours in bitches was examined in 41 dogs to determine the use of
paramunity induction by animal pox virus preparations. In Group 1 the
tumours were removed surgically. The dogs in Group 2 received only Ba
ypamun(R). The animals in Group 3 were treated with Baypamun(R) and we
re treated surgically. For six months post treatment the dogs were exa
mined regularly to detect neoplasia, re-occurrences, metastases and CE
A values. Treatment with Baypamun(R) resulted in the following positiv
e effects: there was an inhibition of tumour growth, due to an encapsu
lation; the growth of lung metastases was inhibited, treated animals a
ppeared to be revitalised and had normal CEA values at their final exa
mination.
