Abstract
We have investigated the adsorption of He-4 onto a quench-condensed H- 2 film by means of surface state electrons. Oscillations in the surfac e state electron conductivity clearly reveal the layerwise character o f the adsorption. At temperatures below 2K we have observed an anomaly in the conductivity around the completion of the first monolayer. Thi s new feature is interpreted as an indication of a liquid-to-solid pha se transition in the first layer.
