Abstract
The synthesis, characterization and X-ray crystallographic structure d etermination are described for a ''phosphaalkene'' formally derived fr om 1,3,4,5-tetramethylimidazol-2-ylidene and phenylphosphinidene. This carbene phosphinidene adduct has a central P-C bond length of 179.4 p m and a dihedral twist of 46 degrees which indicates a very weak C-P p pi-p pi interaction. The valence angle at phosphorus is 102.3 degrees .
