Abstract
Over fifty years after the Land Utilization Survey, directed by the ge ographer Dudley Stamp, the first Land Cover Map of Great Britain, deri ved in digital form from satellite sensor imagery, has been launched. This paper discusses in turn the procedures, logistics and results of the two surveys, and their wider relevance to the recording of landsca pe changes.
