The formation of a new in-migration stream to the inner city of Tel-Av
iv in the 1960s does not fit the gentrification model. Instead, groups
of the new middle class were attracted to the inner city where they r
eplaced the elderly middle-class households that were in the final sta
ges of their life cycles. Gentrification in the southern fringe of the
inner city is merely a by-product of the major process.
