Jj. Masor et al., CASE-REPORT - HASHIMOTOS-THYROIDITIS ASSOCIATED WITH WEGENERS GRANULOMATOSIS, The American journal of the medical sciences, 308(2), 1994, pp. 112-114
Wegener's granulomatosis is a well-defined systemic vasculitic syndrom
e that primarily affects the upper and lower respiratory tracts and th
e kidney. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is another autoimmune syndrome with
the thyroid as its primary target organ. The relation between Hashimot
o's thyroiditis and Wegener's granulomatosis is not reported in the En
glish literature. In this article, the authors describe a patient with
Hashimoto's thyroiditis in whom fulminant Wegener's granulomatosis su
bsequently developed. The immunologic similarities between these two d
iseases leads to the consideration that Wegener's granulomatosis possi
bly may be another immunologic disorder associated with Hashimoto's th
yroiditis,
