Abstract
Data from deep inelastic scattering of 200 GeV muons on a carbon targe t with squared four-momentum transfer 52 GeV2 less-than-or-equal-to Q2 less-than-or-equal-to 200 GeV2 were analysed in the region of the Bjo rken variable close to x = 1, which is the kinematic limit for scatter ing on a free nucleon. At this value of x, the carbon structure functi on is found to be F2C almost-equal-to 1.2 . 10(-4). The x dependence o f the structure function for x > 0.8 is well described by an exponenti al F2C is-proportional-to exp(-sx) with s = 16.5 +/- 0.6.
