Diffusion in a typical joint of a stainless steel and a low-alloy stee
l has been simulated by means of the DICTRA software in a temperature
range between 600 degrees C and 1200 degrees C. Calculated carbon conc
entration profiles are shown. A comparison with experimental data is m
ade for a simulation:at 650 degrees C. The simulations also predict ho
w the amount of the various phases varies with the distance from the j
oint. The amount of carbon transported across the joint is evaluated a
s a function of temperature.
