Abstract
Polyvinylchloride (PVC) films containing different amounts of NiCl2 ha ve been prepared using a casting method. The UV/VIS (200-800 nm) and I R (200-4000 cm(-1)) spectra and de electric conductivity have been inv estigated One optical absorption edge was found for pure PVC, while th e addition of NiCl2 led to the appearance of a second edge at lower ph oton energy. The change of the calculated values of the optical energy gaps with increasing NiCl2 content has been interpreted in terms of t he structural modifications of the PVC matrix. The spectral analysis i ndicated that the Ni+2 ions are present in its octahedral symmetrical forms. The infrared analysis revealed that there is a change of the Ni Cl2 chliation mode beyond 0.25 filling level The electric conduction w as attributed to an intrachain one dimensional interpolaron hopping me chanism. The calculated hopping distance was R(0) greater than or equa l to five monomer unit lengths. R(0) depends linearly on both temperat ure and filling level.
