Using recent Canadian national data, this study examines the remarriag
e experience of women and men after they terminated a first marriage i
n the context of a social exchange model. Our results suggest that the
hazard rate of remarriage varies, depending particularly on type of m
arital dissolution, age at marital disruption, religion and the marria
ge market. The analysis shows marked gender differences in the rate of
remarriage. The implications for these results are discussed.
