The effect of mechanical milling and annealing on the structure and ma
gnetic properties of Sm2Fe14Ga3C2 has been studied. Milling was found
to lead to the formation of an amorphous phase. Annealing at temperatu
res above 700-degrees-C resulted in formation of nanocrystalline SM2Fe
14Ga3C2 phase having the Th2Zn17 structure and isotropic magnetic beha
viour with coercivities of up to 13 kOe. It has been also shown that a
nisotropic powders with coercivities of 4-5 kOe can be prepared using
low energy milling and subsequent heat treatment.
