Vm. Fomichev et Yi. Bublikov, THE INFLUENCE OF OBLIQUE WAVES ON THE STABILITY OF LAMINAR BOUNDARY-LAYER ON A COOLED SURFACE, High temperature, 32(3), 1994, pp. 382-385
The stability of a two-dimensional essentially subsonic boundary layer
of a gas relative to the Tollmien-Schlichting oblique waves propagati
ng at nonzero angle to the direction of outer flow is considered. It i
s shown that, contrary to popular belief, such waves may have high gro
wth increments compared to their two-dimensional analogs and, therefor
e, they may substantially influence the laminar-turbulent flow transit
ion in the boundary layer.
