Given (1) a representation of the time intervals of biological develop
ment as the coordinates in the Gibbs triangle, (2) the concept of the
invariant (first integral), and (3) the suggestion that the maximum in
formation is provided by the search for a corresponding invariant, the
empirically found divergence angles were shown to represent the reali
zation of the most informative plans for the search for the first inte
gral of morphogenesis.
