Gr. Kudoyarova et al., BENZYLADENINE-INDUCED GROWTH-RESPONSE OF WHEAT PLANTS AND ENDOGENOUS PHYTOHORMONE CONTENT AS AFFECTED BY MINERAL-NUTRITION, Russian journal of plant physiology, 40(6), 1993, pp. 772-775
The endogenous phytohormone content and the growth response to benzyla
denine of wheat plants grown in a water culture were studied under opt
imal (10% Hoagland-Arnon nutrient medium) and deficient (2% Hoagland-A
rnon nutrient medium) conditions of mineral nutrition. Abscisic acid c
ontent was lower in the control plants than in the nutrition-deficient
plants. Benzyladenine-induced growth response was observed earlier in
the former than in the latter, correlating with faster cytokinin accu
mulation in plants grown under optimal conditions. The possible role o
f abscisic acid in the regulation of cytokinin accumulation and benzyl
adenine-induced growth of plants is discussed.
