A new differential method of electromagnetic scattering from dielectri
c cylinders is presented. The formulation is based on a harmonic expan
sion of fields in terms of cylindrical wave functions and their matchi
ng at appropriate boundaries. An infinite dimensional differential sys
tem results in for the unknown expansion coefficients. This system is
projected into a finite dimensional one whose numerical solution is th
e essential step. The method is seen to produce highly reliable result
s in the resonance region for TM, TE and line-source excitations.
