Abstract
The writing process offers a valuable medium for informing esthetic kn owing in nursing. First, characteristics of esthetic patterns of knowi ng in nursing are described. Esthetic knowing in world literature is t hen illustrated through the writings of Proust. Next, composition theo ries and research are used to identify ways in which writing can shape esthetic knowing. Finally, the author presents implications for the u se of writing to foster esthetic patterns of knowing in nursing.
