A. Bennaim, SOLVATION OF LARGE MOLECULES - SOME EXACT RESULTS ON THE DEPENDENCE ON VOLUME AND SURFACE-AREA OF THE SOLUTE, Biophysical chemistry, 51(2-3), 1994, pp. 203-216
The solvation Gibbs and Helmholtz energies are evaluated exactly in tw
o model systems. One is a modification of an interstitial model for wa
ter, the second is; a non ideal gas mixture within the second virial a
pproximation. In both systems the general form of the solvation Gibb's
energy of a large solute s is Delta G(s) = aV(s) + bA(s), where V-s
and A(s) are the volume and surface area of the solute s. We also show
that this general form is likely to hold true in any real solution.
