This paper presents a numerical study of the problems of underwater ex
plosions. The numerical results of the transient pressures in both exp
losive and surrounding water are shown. Comparisons with experimental
data for both cast TNT (Trinitrotoluene) and PETN (Pentaerythritol Tet
ranitrate) explosives confirm that the suggested numerical model is ca
pable of providing good predictions for both magnitude and form of the
pressure transient. Compared with general theoretical methods, the pr
esent numerical simulation can be applied to a variety of underwater e
xplosion scenarios, e.g., arbitrary charge shape and orientation; mult
iple charges; and reflections of shock waves at boundary surfaces.
