SEQUENCE OF HCY, A GENE ENCODING CYTOCHROME C-554 FROM NITROSOMONAS-EUROPAEA

Cytochrome c-554 (Cyt c-554) was purified from Nitrosomonas europaea. The N-terminal and internal amino acid sequences were determined. A sy nthetic oligodeoxyribonucleotide primer based on the N-terminal sequen ce was used to construct a PCR clone. This clone was used to identify genomic DNA fragments containing the gene encoding Cyt c-554. We deter mined the nucleotide sequence of this gene and named it hey for hydrox ylamine oxidoreductase-linked cytochrome.
