This report is a companion to ACI 21OR. It contains a series of case h
istories on hydraulic structures that have been damaged by erosion fro
m various physical, mechanical, and chemical actions. Many of these st
ructures have been successfully repaired. There were many examples to
select from; however, the committee has selected recent, typical proje
cts, with differing repair techniques, to provide a broad range of cur
rent experience. These case histories cover only damage to the hydraul
ic surfaces due to the action of water, waterborne material, or chemic
al attack of concrete from fluids conveyed along the hydraulic passage
s. In addition to repairs of the damaged concrete, remedial work frequ
ently includes design modifications that are intended to eliminate or
minimize the action that produced the damage. This report does not cov
er repair of concrete damaged by other environmental factors such as f
reeze-thaw, expansive aggregate, or corroding reinforcement.
