Ls. Kuniata, IMPORTATION AND ESTABLISHMENT OF HETEROPSYLLA-SPINULOSA (HOMOPTERA, PSYLLIDAE) FOR THE BIOLOGICAL-CONTROL OF MIMOSA-INVISA IN PAPUA-NEW-GUINEA, International journal of pest management, 40(1), 1994, pp. 64-65
Mimosa invisa Mart. is a serious weed to range lands, plantations, sub
sistence gardens and non-productive areas in Papua New Guinea. Recentl
y a biocontrol agent, Heteropsylla spinulosa (Homoptera: Psyllidae) wa
s imported and field releases were made in the Markham-Ramu Valleys. I
nitial assessments indicated that the psyllid is becoming widely estab
lished in the field. Application of nitrogen fertilizer to M. invisa p
lants significantly increased H. spinulosa numbers.
