A novel 'frequency quadrupling' technique for the optical generation a
nd delivery via fibre of modulated 60GHz band millimetre-wave signals
is described. The technique requires only microwave frequency capabili
ty for the optical modulator and drive electronics, and these are read
ily available commercially. The frequency quadrupling technique is dem
onstrated experimentally with a high spectral purity 60GHz signal obta
ined using a 15GHz source and optical modulator.
